Thank You for the Support – we hit the Times!

RA_500First, I wanted to thank everybody for the tremendous support during the release of RISING ASSETS.  The book hit the New York Times Bestseller list, which was a first for me.  In fact, it’s kind of a funny story…

Hitting bestseller lists wasn’t even on my bucket list until it happened with PROVOKED, which hit the USA Today Bestseller list.  To be honest, I hadn’t even considered lists, and the second it happened, I was stunned, grateful, and so excited.  And of course, being just a bit ambitious,  then I wanted to hit the Times.  I reeaaaaally wanted to hit the Times by myself and not with other authors in a set or in an anthology so I knew I could do it with my sales alone.  (Although I think all the boxed-sets being put out by my favorite authors banding together in one set is freakin awesome).

So, RISING ASSETS had strong numbers on Amazon and Barnes & Noble on release day.  The Kindle rankings on Amazon, and the Nook rankings on BnN are really the only numbers an author has to watch to know where the book might be.  The book hit the top 50 for all fiction on release day, which was great.  Then the book stayed there a second day.  And a third.  On the fourth day, the book remained in the top 100 overall.

So I thought…maybe?  The Times?

On Wednesdays, an author can find out if she/he will hit a list the following Sunday.  So, on Wednesday, I checked the USA Today website, and RISING ASSETS was #89.  This list goes to 150, and #89 is the highest I’ve hit, and I was very excited.  However, I did think that #89 on the USA Today list probably wasn’t high enough to hit the Times, which only goes to #25.  So I was a bit disappointed but resolved to hit next time.

Then, when Big Tone was heading out to his basketball game, my phone dinged from a tweet from Entangled Publishing saying congrats for hitting the Times at #25.  I’m tearing up just writing this. :)  I’d like to say that I was instantly excited, etc…but instead I panicked.  OMG – they mixed up the USA Today and the Times lists!  So I fired off a quick email to my agent to double check her advanced copy of the list before I responded on Twitter. What was I going to say?  Oops.

I also direct messaged Heather Howland, the assistant publisher at Entangled, with a very dorky ‘are you sure?’  To which she responded with a very kind and understanding…”Yes.  We double check.”  LOL!

So then I lost it.  Just a little bit.  Then, of course, I had to take Jr. Tackle to basketball practice and Little Miss to her volleyball game.  It was all I could do not to run around the gym doing a dance and act normal.  After the game, we all went to dinner at a local sports bar, and my sweaty family was excited for me.  Then life got back to normal.

So I wanted to say thank you.  :)
